Madekwe was raised in a mixed ethnic family. Both her parents were both English. She grew in an estate in south London community estate, and when she was 14, attended The Brit School. She pursued acting studies at The Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, London. She appeared on stage in several productions as a student like King Henry V, as Princess Katherine and Wuthering Heights, as Catherine Earnshaw.
Madekwe launched her acting career in the film Storm Damage. Since then, she has appeared as a guest in Teachers, Doctors, Casualty, and Drop Dead Gorgeous. Madekwe's debut film was that of the Woody Allen 2007 movie Cassandra's Dream. She starred opposite Colin Farrell & Ewan MacGregor. After the film's success, Madekwe played Elisha on The BBC Three drama pilot West 10 LDN and was featured in six episodes Trexx as well as Flipside. In 2008, she was offered the Bambi character on ITV2 Drama The Secret Diary of a Call Girl. Secret Diary of a Call Girl. She appeared in both series 2 and 3. Madekwe also played the lead character in How to lose friends & make people feel alienated that was aired by Sony Pictures Entertainment the year 2008. Her credits in theatre includes Little Sweet Thing or Roy Williams and Flight Path of David Watson.
Madekwe officially made her US debut with The Beautiful Life in 2009. The show aired just two episodes at The CW, and was eventually removed from the air. Ashley Davenport was her role in the ABC drama Revenge. Madekwe had appeared in all episodes of the show's second season as an regular. But in May of 2013, it was announced that announcement was made that she would quit the show due to her appearance as a guest on the premiere episode of its third season. From 2014 until 2016, she starred in Salem in the role of Tituba. Her long-time friend, Iddo, married Madekwe in June of 2012. Alongside Secret Diary of a Call Girl they also appeared in tandem on Salem and Iddo Goldberg had a part alongside her in that show.

Ashley Leggat, an actress who was twice nominated for a Gemini Award, comes from an extensive Hamilton family. Four of her older brothers were present as well including twins Todd and Bram, Brett & Rob. Ashley's brothers were all extremely athletic and played baseball and hockey in the summer and winter. She grew up in stadiums and played baseball. Ashley was never able to actually walk. She would dance. So when she was two and a half and a half, she began to take part in Baby Ballet. Ashley discovered her love for dance when she was just a few years old. Ashley was a dancer who competed across all major divisions up until her graduation from high school. The competitions she participated in included jazz, tap, ballet and pointe, as well as acrobatics. She won the top soloist at each of the main dance contests, including, International Dance Challenge, Showstoppers 5-6-7-8 Showtime, Flash Dance, and Dance, Dance, Dance just to mention a few.
